Sometime’s a picture is worth a thousand words.
So click on this one to see the NOAA Image big screen and read all about January 2012 weather across the United States.
The only thing I’ll say: in my mind, record cold in Alaska was a missed opportunity for most of Oregon & Southwest Washington. Most years we can at least get ourselves an arctic blast and perhaps some longer lasting snow when that arctic air slides south to us. Not this time.
Some of the really cold stuff cut across northern Washington and most took a trip east of the Rockies. Leaving Portland and Vancouver cold enough for snow that lasted on the ground just about ten hours! That snow did add up to 2.3″ at the National Weather Service Office near PDX.
Guess we’ll try again next time…
