I need to do some more research on this. But it’s my general belief that as soon as the kids go back to school, mother nature turns the temperature back up!
Whoops, she’s doing it again.
Wednesday: A couple of places in the south Willamette Valley could hit 90.
Thursday: A number of places in the valley and the Portland-Vancouver metro could hit 90. A lot of upper 80s, too.
Friday: Bring it. Many places, and likely Portland, make it to 90 degrees!
How Late In The Year Can Portland Hit 90
The latest ever, as you can see here, is October 5th. But four of the last five years it has happened during mid-late September. And guess what? The forecast models I use are hinting at another possible 90 degree visit the weekend of September 15-16. That’s a long ways out…it’ll probably rain that weekend instead. But just in case…you heard it here first!

Bruce,
Could you post a little more detail on the top 10 dry streaks for Portland. Saw your coverage last night on the 11PM show but couldn’t get all the details.
Thanks from another weather geek!
Bruce Sussman says
Jerry–I will try and do it at later this week. Thanks for the post!
Mike Brice says
Chk out Anch ak. 100 mph winds not a norm. for Anch this time of year. tree s down. debris all over.
Bruce Sussman says
Mike–one of our former producers lives up that way. She said the storm was very scary. That was a heck of a way to kick off the storm season up there!

Your dust devil expatiation sucked. I just learned that you don’t need a GED to be a meteorologist. Very sad. Bob the Weather Cat had better forecasts than you.
Bruce Sussman says
Glenn–
Sorry you didn’t like the explanation. Sometimes it’s tough to go into too much detail when I’m trying to spend sufficient time on the forecast. And I’m not too insulted by your comment on Bob the Weather Cat. I know he was very popular around here!
Thanks for your post.
