In a summer where we talked for months about whether we’d ever hit 90 degrees, we really outdid ourselves at the end.
In Portland, Oregon, we average 78 degrees for our high temperatures during the second week of September.
But as you see here, in September 2011, the average high temperature turned out to be a whopping 91.6 degrees.
Uh, that’s what I call a heat wave!
Few Records Broken During Oregon and Washington’s September 2011 Heatwave
Even with all the heat, Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington never broke any records. But a few places did:
- The Dalles, Oregon – 100 degrees on 9/7/11 (topped 99 in 1993) / 102 degrees on 9/11/11 (topped 95 in 1996)
- Redmond, Oregon – 94 degrees on 9/9/11 (topped 93 in 1993) / 95 degrees 9/11/11 (topped 93 in 1948)
- Troutdale, Oregon – 92 degrees on 9/10/11 (tied with 92 in 1997)
- Seattle, Washington (WFO) – 86 degrees on 9/11/11 (topped 84 in 2009)
- Olympia, Washington – 88 degrees on 9/11/11 (topped 87 in 2007)
For now, it looks like unusually cool weather will dominate for awhile. And any warm ups appear to be short lived.
Ahh, that’s summer weather in the Pacific Northwest! Isn’t it fun?
