I’ve always said that my least favorite thing to forecast is significant wind.
Too many times I’ve seen forecasts for strong winds go bust, largely because there are so many intricate details that have to come together. And in the case of Saturday, we were absolutely on the low end of what was possible because the storm was slower than expected to move in. That delay allowed it to weaken which meant much less wind than the storm’s potential.
Peak gusts for Saturday April 7, 2018
- PDX – 40mph
- West Hills – 44mph
- SE Portland – 44mph
- Estacada – 44mph
- Salem – 44mph (44 is a very popular number!)
- Lincoln City – 58mph
- Pacific City – 58mph
- Cape Foulweather – 72mph (living up to its name!)
What we lacked in wind, we made up for with rain, with many places topping 1″ on Saturday. In fact, Portland had received just .72″ of rain for the entire month of April as of Friday. But by Saturday at 8pm, that number had doubled to 1.44″ because of the heavy rain.
Thanks for checking in with me on the weather blog and I hope you have a fantastic week ahead!
