Spring skiing this year at Mount Hood Meadows?
Forget about it.
Because in spring 2011 the resort saw unbelievable amounts of quality winter-like powder piling up in both March & April.
This photo posted by Temira on the resort’s flickr page shows the deep powder and sunshine combo on March 19, 2011.
In my ongoing series of Friday interviews, I asked the resort about the year just before they shut the lifts down for the last time this season at 2pm on Sunday May 15th.

#1 – We know it was an epic La Nina season at Mt. Hood Meadows. What are your favorite ‘snow stats’ of any kind from this season?
Has to be the persistence of winter with continued snow on March and April with no real spring skiing to speak of. Total snowfall March 2011 – 149 inches. The prior five year average for the month of March is 99 inches (not including this season’s March total). Total snowfall April 2011 – 130 inches. The prior five year average for the month of April is 55 inches (not including this season’s April total)

#2 – How much snow will still be at the base when you close the lifts for the last time this season?
We have 11 feet of snow in the base area, more higher up on the mountain.

Â
#3 – Is it true practically anyone can ski free or cheap this weekend–your last weekend?
Tickets are reduced to $49 good from 9 – 2. Of course season passholders including oir night abd midweek passholders ski free.

#4 – Can you tell us about one big project you’ll do when the snow is finally gone?
Stadium Express high speed quad construction. It will replace the old fixed grip double chair and provide much more direct and convenient access to Hood River Meadows, Shootong Star, Heather Canyon and Private Reserve
