This picture, to the right, is the way IÂ imagine Coloradoto be.
Lots of green, nice looking homes and well manicured and oversized lots.
With the sun shining on it all, of course.
And in fact, this is the most recent aerial picture on BING of this particular part of a Colorado Springs neighborhood before the Waldo Canyon Fire raged during the third week of June 2012.
And now the after photo:
This is the Colorado Springs neighborhood about 36 hours after the wildfire raged into homes. I mean, look at this. Can you just imagine how hot and how fast the fire must have been to basically incinerate a neighborhood? I find it hard to believe. But match up the culdesacs in the picture and you’ll know it’s the same neighborhood. Once a slice of paradise and now rubble.
RJ Sangosti of The Denver Post took the ‘after the wildfire’ photos from the air. And the paper put together an unbelievable set of before and after the wildfire images. If you have a minute, please check them out for yourself. I’m also updating the images of the fire as seen from outer space.
I hope you’ll join me in saying a prayer for those who so suddenly lost everything they called home.
