I had to do the math twice on this one.
Because even I didn’t believe it.
But it’s true.
Here in Portland, Oregon’s cool summer of 2011…if you’re seeing a view like this with the KOIN Tower under brilliant blue sky…it’s probably a weekend!
Does Murphy know we’re breaking his law? Should northwest brides tip local meteorologists to thank them for this trend? Hmm. Sounds like a good idea to me!
The Breakdown: Proof Portland’s Weather Is Nicer On Weekends
So here’s what I did. I went digging through all of Portland’s high temperatures since the start of summer on June 21, 2011. Next, I circled the weekends and averaged the highs. Then I did the same thing for weekdays. And here are the results:
Portland Average Weekday high: 74 degrees
Portland Average Weekend high: 78 degrees
The weekends win by a full 4 degrees! And this summer, that makes all the difference doesn’t it?
More Proof : Portland’s Weekends Are Warmer
Next, I looked at days with highs in the 60s–these are days that are ‘exceptionally’ below the average for this time of year:
Portland On Weekdays – 6 days in the 60s
Portland On Weekends – 1 day in the 60s
And that one weekend day, was the wettest day of summer so far. Sunday July 17, Portland had a record .67″ of rain. Ouch.
Hey, no one said weekends were perfect. But this summer, they are d-e-f-i-n-t-e-l-y warmer!
