It’s late July 2012 and it’s time for the mid-summer ‘smackdown!’
I’ve been hearing complaints lately (especially the last 48 hours when Portland hit 70 & 71 for highs) that this is turning into another bummer of a summer. But is that true? Can we really say it’s like last year?
My colleague Brian Miskimins, who does weekend weather on KOIN Local 6, did some digging on this one. He used days 80 degrees or warmer as the benchmark to compare Portland’s summer 2012 with summer 2011 through July 23.
80 Degree Days: Portland Summer 2012 vs. 2011
And the winner is…drumroll please….
If you like days in the 80s, this is your summer! Portland’s had 24 days so far at or above 80 degrees. If you like days in the 70s–last year was your winner. At this point we’d had just 7 days top 80 degrees. That was just plain nuts!
So, now you know the facts of the summer vs. summer ‘smack-down!’
My question is this: does it really feel to you like it’s been a warmer summer than last year?
Roland Derksen says
Yes, Bruce; It definetly feels warmer this summer (from July 5th onward). but yesterday it felt more like Oct.23rd than July 23rd here. We had “seasonal confusion”!
Dave says
Portland weather stinks! I wish I could move….
