“Can you make it snow?” That was my favorite question from the first graders at St. Agatha School in southeast Portland. I told them, “Yes, but I charge 500 pennies. Do you guys think you can come up with those?” Then their teacher told them I was only joking!Â
My typical talk at these school visits covers why our winters are so rainy and our summers so sunny and dry. How is that even possible? And we talk about the Water Cycle, too. It’s fun to see them figure things out.
And just for the record: if I could control the weather, I’d hit the “sunny and 78” button as often as possible!

I was fortunate to attend Bruce Sussman’s talk at St. Agatha School and any student , faculty and parent who is lucky enough to listen to Mr. Sussman talk about the weather, water cycle and the factors that determine the weather in the great Northwest is in for a real treat. Mr. Sussman had our 1st graders on the edge of the their seat. He has a real talent with children and obvious love for what he does. We would love to have him return to our school. Thank you Mr. Sussman, we will never forget your visit. We had a great time and learned a lot.
