How about a giant question mark in the sky–created by some wispy clouds over Portland?
Yep, Amanda caught a picture of this one.
And besides Portland being unusually warm the first week of June 2013, it was also unusually interesting when it comes to the week in pictures. Here’s what I mean:
Darlisa caught the northern lights in this time lapse exposure from the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge. That’s rare.
The moon-scape is back! Yep, our unusually warm weather is revealing the ash again inside the crater on Mount St. Helens. This image is from the USFS Volcano Cam, one of the most googled volcano cams in the world!
How about this shot from Mike, taken around sunset in downtown Portland. I titled it a ‘contrail tightrope’ because it looked like a rope between buildings! The one on the left is the waterfront Marriott hotel. It’s really one of those ice clouds created by a passing jet and lit up by the setting sun.
Mid-week, I had a lot of questions about contrails that formed and were back-lit right after the sun went down. Some people called them ‘tiger stripes’ and others ‘zebra stripe clouds’. They did have a weird look. Isn’t it awesome what light can do?
And…here’s a passing visitor in outer space! Ray took this 30 second exposure of the International Space Station passing over Portland about 9:30pm on Thursday June 7, 2013.
On Wednesday June 6, the International Space Station made a shining appearance as well–but after the light of day was gone–at about 10:40pm.
And finally, it’s our ‘incredible sunset shot’ of the week! Louis sent this picture into news@koin.com — it is the Friday night sunset over the mighty Columbia River that is also the state border between Oregon & Washington. Boy, I wish I could’ve seen the sunset from the boat in this picture.
So after all these photos, I hope you can understand the title of this post: Incredible Week Of Weather Photos For Oregon & Washington.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Those are some wonderful pictures, Bruce! It makes me appreciate again living in this part of the world. By the way, we didn’t exactly have the warmest (or driest) first week of June here in Vancouver, but it still was pretty good. Anytime you get afternoon temperatures in the70’s is fine with me!
