Here’s how the partial eclipse of 2012 looked above New Mexico. Wow, the ring of fire! Thanks to Robert Ball for posting this shot on my favorite sky watching site.
NewMexico was in the path to see a views like this. Here in northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington the eclipse was less spectacular but still very cool.
But there was one-tiny-little-problem: most places clouds were too thick to see anything!
Oregon And Washington Photos Of 2012 Solar Eclipse
But there were some lucky folks who had clouds just thin enough to see our Portland-Vancouver view of the eclipse. And the patience to wait for that! Here are their photos:

Way to go — thanks for sharing your shots of the 2012 Solar Eclipse with those of us who could not see it!

Dear Bruce, This has nothing to do with the eclipse, but I was just wondering why you always show Garden Home on your weather maps? I grew up in Garden Home in the 1950’s, on 78th Ave, a street that dead ended at the 15th tee of the Portland Golf Club. In those days nobody ever heard of the place, it was just an intersection of Olsen and Garden Home roads. My wife Lori and I think your weather reports are the best, keep up the great work! Thanks Gary….
P.S. We call you: “The Happy Dude.”

Gary–I love the nickname…thank you! Great question about Garden Home. The reason I have it on there is because #1 – it’s a great spot (right?) #2 – there’s a live weather station there & #3 – I could fit it on the map. And honestly, #3 is usually the make or break part of that equation!
Have a great weekend and I appreciate you and your wife watching KOIN Local 6! Bruce
