Aaahhhh.
You’ve gotta love this sunset shot Daniel sent in of the sunset of summer on June 20, 2012. His camera was aimed toward the West Hills and Northwest Portland in this picture.
And Amanda sent in this beauty of the northern part of the downtown Portland skyline. I love the pink reflecting in the river.
Dave Cleary caught this great shot of a thunderstorm on the second day of summer 2012 as he pointed his camera toward the Cascades from Redmond. If you expand this picture, the black triangular shaped mountain on the left is Black Butte and Mt. Jefferson is snow-capped and on the right.
The second day of summer also allowed Darlisa Black to capture two halos in the sky at the same time. Ice crystals lined up in an unusual way at met up with one of the highest sun angles of the year to put on this show above the Columbia River Gorge.
Louis Bowerman took this shot of Mt. Hood–showing more and more brown by the day. It was so warm on the mountain on June 21, 2012 that the snow became quite soft and that may have lead to the fall of a man climbing the mountain on the day the picture was taken. The climber was injured but survived.
Carol Brown caught some Mare’s Tails in action over Vancouver, Washington on the second day of summer.
And winds in the skies above helped to create some really cool cloud shapes up above. Carol took this shot, too.
Portland hit 81 degrees two days in a row. Summer day 1 — and summer day 2. Summer day 3 was not quite as nice. The high was 66 and the rain moved through for several hours in the evening.
And that is what you call ‘summer in the northwest!’
