This is Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Volunteers put up thousands upon thousands of these flags the Thursday evening before Memorial Day.
Part way through that big job of honoring those who served our country the sky turned dark and downpours moved in.
But instead of quitting–these people put up their hoods and popped open umbrellas then kept quietly adding flag after American flag.
It’s in that same spirit I say thank you to all our military active and retired. You don’t and didn’t quit because of crazy weather or some other obstacle. Instead you carry on & make us proud. We appreciate the sacrifice you and your families have made for the rest of us.
And if I had the chance to say one thing to those represented by each flag at Willamette National Cemetery, then, I would say this: “Thanks for keeping us safe!”
