You’ve heard there are thousands of pieces of space junk rotating the earth, right?
One of those pieces of junk is the ROSAT X-ray Observatory that launched in 1990 as a joint effort between the U.S., Germany and the United Kingdom.
Scientists say the satellite turned off in 1999 and it’s been part of the space junk inventory every since.
Now, sometime before Halloween 2011, the satellite is forecast to return to earth.
And although it’s smaller than the UARS Satellite that recently crashed into the Pacific Ocean, it’s actually expected to bring more and heavier debris down to the earth’s surface!
No one knows exactly when or where the satellite will return–it could be another nail biter down to the end like UARS was.
I’ll let you know when there’s more on this one!

Oh my! It sounds like we need to get a space debris management plan put into place!

Hi Yvonne–I was on vacation. Next time I’ll try and post something on the blog before I go, so you know!
Thanks for your post and for watching–we all really appreciate it!

Nice inversion right now. Like the tower temps. 47 at 1800ft and 43 at 1000ft. Begining to fell alot like fall. East winds to come. Wohooo 🙂 Do you ever go to crown point?
Bruce Sussman says
Between working during crazy weather and two little ones at home…I haven’t been up to C Point unless it’s sunny and warm. But one of these days I’ll have to get up there during an east wind event!
